New Government design standards for cycling infrastructure explained

Last year the Government published its new design standards for cycling infrastructure. These are a significant advance on what went before and commit local authorities to upping their game by building cycle infrastructure to the highest international standards.

The Government’s vision for making cycling a mass form of transport is outlined in a document called “Gear Change” while the new technical standards which local authorities must follow are published in the guidance known as LTN 1/20.

Key design principles of LTN 1/20

Your local councillors and officers should be aware of what these changes mean. As a first step towards this it would be useful if we became more familiar with the changes ourselves.

With this in mind we invited Mark Treasure, chair of the Cycling Embassy of Great Britain, to give a presentation on what these new design standards mean, especially for cycling in Horsham.
