Ladies-only bike ride Sunday 8th July 2018

Twice as many men as women ride regularly for the simple reason that the roads are too dangerous. On Sunday 8th July there’s a chance to rectify this with a ladies-only bike ride!

The ride will commemorate the life of Horsham-born poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and will take place almost entirely on off-road paths.

Ride organiser Thea Bredie hopes that more women will be encouraged to experience the friendship, fun and freedom that cycling can provide and will get to know a bit more about Shelley’s life and work:

“Cycling is growing in popularity for all manner of reasons and we hope that, before too long, the Shelley Ride can be safely extended into Warnham, where Shelley was born and where he attended his first school.”

The easy 6km ride will start at 10:00am at the sun dial in the Forum and finish at Warnham Nature Reserve at approximately 12:30pm where refreshments will be available.

You can find more details of the ride here, including an online registration form.

And if you’re wondering what it looks like when more women than men cycle then watch this short film from the Netherlands.
